Carnival Parade and Floats

Carnival Parade and Floats

The more the merrier in our carnival parade! Here’s all you need to know about getting involved.

Saturday

Carnival!

Fancy Dress

We welcome those in fancy dress to join the parade. A lorry to transport children wearing fancy dress will be part of the parade; children can board at Westley Crescent. A parent or guardian must walk alongside. Fancy dress will be judged when the parade arrives at the park, with prizes available in the following categories: up to and including 3 years, age 4, age 5, age 6, age 7, age 8, age 9, age 10, age 11. Children can take part in the fancy dress competition even if they have been on a float.

How to enter a float

Floats can be on a lorry or flatbed, be pedal powered or pushed along, or be a collection of walkers. All you need is a theme, some costumes and/or some props to make it something special. There are loads of prizes up for grabs. Floats are judged for creativity, execution and effort.

Float categories: junior float, senior float, walking float

First prize in each category wins £50, second prize £25

(If you do use a vehicle, it must have relevant insurance. Email us to check, or with any other queries: parade@littleeatoncarnival.com)

Carnival Parade collection

Erewash Borough Council issue us a permit to collect money from the public during the Carnival Parade. This goes into the Carnival Community Fund, which supports local causes.

Float rules

1. All float vehicles MUST carry insurance in compliance with the current Road Traffic Act. Please note that you must ensure that the vehicle insurance, especially when borrowed, covers the activity and the driver.

2. All float organisers must provide at least two walking marshals who are responsible for the safety of the float and its occupants.

3. All entries take part at their own risk. The committee do not hold themselves responsible for damage, loss or injury sustained by any person taking part in the Carnival whatsoever. The committee advises all competitors to insure themselves against any such damage, loss or injury, and against third-party claims.

4. Taking part in the Carnival (or indeed starting the parade) signifies that you have accepted the rules, terms and conditions of entry.
